Flights to Orlando Florida

In addition to the package holiday companies British Airways and the other major carriers all have daily scheduled flights to Orlando International Airport and other Florida airports. Whilst the flight cost will be a significant part of the overall holiday budget, cheap Orlando flights are possible. Which carrier to go with, from where and to where will all depend on your holiday dates and how you are planning to spend your time in Florida.

Most outbound flights depart the UK from breakfast time to early afternoon for a late afternoon arrival, with inbound flights generally leaving Florida in the early evening for arrival in the UK on the morning of the following day. Direct Flight time from London to Orlando is around 9 hours.

There are many options to break the flight by stopping on the way, some cheap flights can be found by taking a scheduled flight from the UK to the carrier’s American hub city and then taking an internal flight to Orlando later the same day or after a break. Flights via New York or Chicago with British Airways or American Airlines offer an interesting way to start or end the holiday. The British Airways flight search engine is a very good way of seeing all the flight and fare options available.

The table below details some of the direct flights available to Orlando from various UK airports. Whilst British Airways only fly direct from Gatwick, flights from other UK airports are possible with a change at Gatwick, your luggage will be through checked. Thomson holidays fly from various UK airports to Orlando Sandford, flights will be based around your package deal with departure dates and locations dictated by that. Thomsons long haul flights include luggage and refreshments (excluding alcohol).

Airport Hotels and Parking

If you are driving your own car to the airport then you will have to arrange parking for the duration of your holiday, all the major airports have their own facilities for this, and the larger airports are surrounded by companies offering the same service.

Holiday Extras and other such companies provide search and booking facilities to allow you to look at all the parking options available at your departure airport for the dates you wish to travel.

With flights to Florida often departing early in the morning it can be worthwhile booking a hotel with parking near to the airport for the night before your flight. It is wonderful starting your holiday relaxing over a glass of wine and dinner out knowing that all you have to do the next morning is catch shuttle bus to the airport and fly away.

Holiday Extras can help you again here with good deals for booking a hotel with parking that often cost little more than the parking would by itself.

UK Airports

London Heathrow Airport (LHR)

The UK hub for British Airways and the largest airport in England. Heathrow is split into five terminals connected to each other and to London via the Heathrow Express underground train.

If you are travelling with British Airways to Miami or another destination outside of Florida then you will probably be flying from Heathrow Terminal 5. American Airlines and other US based carriers generally also fly from Heathrow. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and some charter flights to Orlando or Tampa fly from London Gatwick.

Where some airports are places for planes to land that happen to have a few shops attached, Heathrow is a shopping center that planes happen to land at. If you like a bit of retail therapy then welcome to shopping heaven. Duty free drinks, perfume and cosmetics mix with every high street and high end fashion store, electronics, books and every type of gadget you can imagine can be found in each terminals shopping area.

As you are travelling outside of the EU then duty free allowances do apply and can be used to make good savings, why not stock up on some White Rum to mix a few Mojito's by the pool once you get to Florida.

London Gatwick Airport (LGW)

Gatwick, located near Crawley and just 20 mins drive from the southern M25 is London's second airport. Split into two interconnected terminals and home to British Airways and Virgin Atlantics' Orlando operations.

Smaller than Heathrow Gatwick can feel a little cramped in the terminal areas, however recent expansion has opened up new facilities that are primarily used by Orlando flights.

Car access is good with plentiful parking, train connections to London and beyond are also available. There are regular coach shuttles between Heathrow and Gatwick.

If you are travelling on an early morning flight you can check in your bags the night before, leaving you with just your hand luggage and security in the morning. Makes an early start so much easier and gets you straight past the queues of people that did not know you could do this.

Manchester (MAN)

Manchester airport is spacious and has a great selection of restaurants and shopping facilities, the lounges feel open and bright. Situated just off the M56 with good connections to the motorway network and also to the rail network Manchester airport is easy to get to.

The airport is arranged into three terminals with both Virgin Atlantic and Thomson Holidays offering direct flights to Orlando. British Airways fly to either Heathrow or Gatwick for onward connecting flights to Orlando.

Orlando & Florida Airports

Orlando International Airport (MCO)

The main Orlando Airport is situated in Orange County, an easy 30 minutes from Disney and well suited to families travelling on holiday. Modern, clean and easy to make your way around with plenty of seating space around the gates, the airport has two terminals connected by a monorail to a central hub containing a comprehensive range of shops and restaurants with all of the main theme parks represented. All the car hire companies can be found on the bottom floor with a dedicated multi story car park just outside for car collections and returns. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and the American carriers all use Orlando International Airport for their scheduled flights. Whilst customs and passport control is never an easy task at any American airport Orlando International Airport is much better than most with shorter queues and friendly staff.

Orlando Sandford Airport (SFB)

A smaller airport situated about an hour to the north of Disney, Orlando Sandford Airport is used by some the package holiday companies rather than scheduled flights. There are a few smaller shops, a food court and bar.

Florida Tampa Airport (TPA)

Situated on the Gulf Coast near the beach and Busch Gardens attractions Tampa Airport offers an interesting alternative to the Orlando Airports. Whilst only a two hour drive from Disney, starting or ending your holiday on the Gulf Coast beaches can offer a relaxing alternative to the full on theme park experience. British Airways and some of the American carriers fly daily to both Tampa and Orlando International allowing different inbound and outbound airports. Whilst a little smaller then Orlando International, Tampa Airport has a good range of shops, restaurants and other facilities and is serviced by the major car hire companies.

Miami International Airport (MCO)

A four hour drive from Disney, Miami International Airport is best used for a two center holiday with Orlando and the fantastic Florida Keys. Miami International is a little tired in places and the Customs and Passport control can be something of a trial, but that said if your holiday is going to start or finish in the Keys then it is ideal. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and the American carriers all offer daily scheduled flights to both Miami and Orlando allowing different inbound and outbound Airports.
